About Doi Suthep
Doi Suthep is the highest mountain in Chiang Mai, standing at 1676 meters. The iconic Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temple atop the peak, one of Chiang Mai's most famous temples, was built in 1383. From the summit, you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire city and witness breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.

1. Golden Pagoda
The temple's core structure stands 22 meters tall, entirely gilded and shimmering in the sunlight. It houses the Buddha's relics, making it a sacred site for pilgrims to worship.
2. 306 steps
A path to the temple flanked by two dragon statues, giving it the name "Wat Sam Phao." You can hike up (about 15 minutes) or take the cable car (20 THB).
3. Observation Deck
A viewing platform beside the temple offers panoramic views of Chiang Mai. On clear days, visibility is excellent, making it a popular spot for photos.
4. Bell Tower
Traditional Thai bell tower with morning and evening chimes. Visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of the temple.
Visitor Etiquette
- Dress Code: Dress appropriately. Shorts, skirts, and sleeveless tops are not permitted.
- Remove Shoes Before Entering the Main Hall: Please take off your shoes and place them in the designated area.
- Please remain quiet: Temples are sacred spaces; avoid loud noise.
- Photography Etiquette: Photography is allowed, but please do not point at the Buddha statues.
- Note for women: Entry to the main hall is not recommended during menstruation.

- Sunrise: 6:00-7:00, sea of clouds, spectacular view
- Sunset: 17:00-18:00, golden light bathes the city.
- Avoid the crowds: Weekends and holidays are busier; weekdays offer a better experience.
